Leccinum albellum (Pk.) Singer Cap 3-6cm across, broadly convex becoming flatter, sometimes somewhat depressed in the center in age; whitish to pale buff or tan, sometimes olive-brown or yellowy; smooth, occasionally velvety at first, sometimes pitted, then often with scaly patches in age. Tubes deeply depressed; whitish at first. Pores up to 1mm broad; whitish, unchanging. Stem 50-80x7-11mm, sometimes slightly twisted; white to pale olive-buff, becoming rough with dark ornamentation. Flesh thick; white, unchanging. Spores ellipsoid to subfusiform, 15-19.5 x 4-6µ. Deposit olive-brown. Habitat under hardwoods, especially oak. Quite common. Found in southern and eastern North America. Season July-October. Edibility not known. |
